| Instructor Bio: | Hello! My name is Michael Eason, and I’ve been quilting for more than 20 years. My love for quilting began in an unexpected way—when my aunt passed, I came across some wool blocks she had given me as a teenager. With nothing but curiosity and my mother’s old Singer sewing machine, I stitched together my very first quilt. I didn’t know a thing about sewing, needles, or fabric, and while that first quilt was far from perfect, it sparked a passion that has only grown deeper over the years. In 2024, I attended QuiltCon in Raleigh, NC, and was introduced to the vibrant world of Modern Quilting. The experience was eye-opening, filled with inspiration and fresh possibilities that encouraged me to push beyond traditional methods and explore quilting as a more personal and artistic expression. One of the areas I’ve come to love most is English Paper Piecing (EPP). For years I believed it was too difficult for me, but just like my first quilt, I decided to dive in without expectations. I started with traditional shapes—hexagons, diamonds, triangles—and soon discovered that I wanted to explore beyond the familiar. Influenced by modern quilting ideas, I began sketching my own shapes, experimenting with straight lines and unconventional patterns. This freedom to play has led me to create original, artistic pieces that bring together structure and creativity in exciting new ways. Now, I’m thrilled to share this method with others. In my workshops, we’ll explore how simple shapes and creative fabric choices can come together to make something fresh, modern, and entirely your own. My goal is to encourage quilters of all levels to take risks, embrace the unknown, and add another inspiring skill to their quilting journey. ? |
