About

Want to learn a little more about me? My name is Rebecca Moyer. I’ve been sewing in different forms pretty much all my life. I started at 6, when I learned needlepoint at my grandmothers side. She was a hand quilter who didn’t like to piece! Growing up, I did lots of embroidery and cross stitch with her. As I got a little older, I learned to sew clothing with my mother and took high school sewing classes as well.

About 15 years ago, I learned to piece quilts and I was hooked. I accidentally burned out my hand-me-down sewing machine in my beginner class, invested in a Bernina, and really grew passionate about this art form. I haven’t entered too many shows, but did win a Best Use of Color ribbon at Pennsylvania National Quilt Extravaganza in 2017, Best Longarm Quilting in 2022, and an Honorable Mention in 2024!

Over time, I learned how to machine quilt on my small domestic machine, but got frustrated at its limitations. I loved being able to add another level of dimension to my quilts through the quilting, but didn’t like how difficult it was to work with a large quilt in such a small machine. A good friend of mine let me use her longarm and I quickly became addicted but it wasn't yet the right time to buy a longarm. In 2020, the pandemic came and taught us all there is never a "right time". I bought my first longarm and started Purple Bobbin!

In 2023 I visited Asheville, North Carolina and just fell in love with the community, the creative residents and of course the hiking! I moved here with my two kids and our pet parrotlet in July of 2024 and shortly after, became a shop owner in Hendersonville North Carolina.  Now I'm excited to not only be able to longarm for other quilters, but to teach quilters how to use the longarm and enable them to rent time in my shop!

When I'm not quilting, I find any excuse to spend time outside and can be found hiking, biking, kayaking. I also try and make time to swim regularly and do a lot of yoga, reading, and of course spending time with my kids.  Some of my family may make an appearance on my posts, and some might also be working behind the scenes to help me run Purple Bobbin, but the focus here is always you and your quilts!

I can help if this is your first quilt or your hundredth quilt.
